Lionel Messi, full name Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccitini, was born on June 24, 1987, in Rosario, Santa Fe Province, Argentina. He is an Argentine professional football player who plays as a forward. Currently, he is playing for Inter Miami CF in Major League Soccer and also serves as the team's captain. Often considered the best player in the world and widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Messi has won a record eight Ballon d'Or awards, a record six European Golden Shoes.

A prolific goalscorer and creative playmaker, Messi holds the records for most goals in La Liga (474), a La Liga and European league season (50), most hat-tricks in La Liga (36) and the UEFA Champions League (8), and most assists in La Liga (192), a La Liga season (21) and the Copa América (17). He also holds the record for most international goals by a South American male (81). Messi has scored over 750 senior career goals for club and country and has the most goals by a player for a single club.


Club Career-from Barcelona to PSG to Inter Miami

Lionel Messi joined Miami International Football Club in Major League Soccer on June 8, 2023. He proudly wore the iconic number 10 jersey, becoming the 10th Argentine player to join the Miami International.

Additionally, Messi became the first player outside of European leagues to receive this prestigious accolade. At the age of 36 years and 4 months, he also became the second-oldest recipient of the Ballon d'Or.

Messi decided to play for his homeland, Argentina, in 2005. He led the team to the final game of the 2005 U-20 World Cup against Nigeria, which ended in a 2–1 Argentine victory. Messi scored two penalties as his national team won the U-20 World Cup. In addition to the gold medal, Messi was awarded the Golden Shoe for most goals scored (6), and Golden Ball for best player. Messi was made captain of the national team in 2011. Messi showed up his better version at the 2014 World Cup guiding Argentina to the finals. But Argentina lost against Germany despite having extra time.

The new Argentina national team's home jersey for the 2022 World Cup features a classic combination of white and sky blue.
